ELEVENTH IN LINE

About This Blog
A blog about my life, universe, etc. At any given time you might find something endlessly interesting or just me ruminating on something else, which no one (not even myself) finds interesting. That's the way blogs go, I suppose. Anyway, I was eleventh in line, and you weren't. Hah!

About My Family
My mom is a
lawyer in Pickerington; my stepdad and dad are computer guys, and my stepmom (who works with my dad) is an engineer. My sisters are, in order of age, a photographer, an artist, and a person too young to have her own website. My brothers are, in order of age, living up north, and again, a person too young to have a website. At some point soon I'll be collecting links for my aunts, uncle, and cousins. ^_^

It sounds to me as though
This person only knows that he's made people upset and caused an uproar, and has little notion of why they're distressed:

“I am very sorry if I caused any offence or embarrassment to anyone. It was a poor choice of costume and I apologise.”

Umm, yeah.

I tend to agree with the folks planning the upcoming British visit to Auschwitz -- Prince Harry being there would likely be the focus of the entire affair, instead of remembering what happened 60 years ago -- but it seems to me as though a good bit of "Harry visiting the Holocaust Memorial Museum" and "Harry helping with oral histories at the Jewish Community Center" and "Harry helping to preserve what's left of the shtetl in Lithuania" is in order.

I mean, his mother knew how to make people understand she cared about landmine victims, right? Surely some of her PR people are still around. There are photos of those appearances, anyway, and I've seen him and his brother comforting AIDS orphans in Africa (or something), so the institutional knowledge is still alive.

And meanwhile, such activities are likely to remind even a modern child of privilege why, precisely, things like this matter.

Because only so many people can be eleventh in line.
